Beach Ball Toss! “Bocce ball for the beach or backyard”

How to play:

1. One team tosses the large white jack ball any distance, with or without obstacles in its path (beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, wind screens, etc.), which makes the game fun and challenging.

2. Each team alternates by tossing one colored (blue, orange, green, pink, purple, or yellow) team ball as close to the large white jack ball as possible, until all four team balls have been tossed.

3. Only team balls closer to the large white jack ball compared to the other team’s closest team ball score points. One point per team ball, or three points if a team ball is touching the large white jack ball.

4. Play continues until one team reaches an agreed upon score, usually an odd number anywhere between 11 and 21.

California Rules: California Rules allow each player to be ready and standing next to each other before the bouncy jack ball may be tossed. Once the bouncy jack ball has been tossed, there is an imaginary line perpendicular to the toss just in front of the players that may not be crossed by the players. However, the players may move anywhere behind the imaginary line with the strategy of finding a better position in which to toss their team balls towards the bouncy jack ball.

Florida Rules: Florida Rules add some more definition to player location and movement. With this rule, after a round is complete and the score for that round has been calculated, the players are allowed to pick up all the balls. As soon as all balls have been picked up the player tossing the bouncy jack ball may toss it at any time and in any location, at which point all players’ positions in the sand are set in place. Each player may then choose a pivot foot (similar to a basketball player choosing a foot to pivot on) and can only move the other foot in order to position their body to toss the team balls. The strategy here is recognized by the player tossing the bouncy jack ball and where it lands relative to the other player(s) that is set in place on the sand and how hard it is for them to toss their team balls towards the bouncy jack ball.
